A day that went wrong

Vi vill binda ihop meningar så att läsaren förstår hur saker hänger ihop. However och although visar en motsättning: Although it was raining, we went out. Because och therefore visar orsak och följd: The bus was late. Therefore, we missed the start.

Unless betyder om inte, och as soon as betyder så snart som. Variera orden så att du inte börjar varje mening med and then. Läs till sist texten igen och se om något sambandsord gör en mening tydligare.

Although the weather was terrible, we had a great time. Det betyder: fast vädret var hemskt hade vi jättekul.

Our trip to the zoo (or not)

Last Friday our class was supposed to go to the zoo. We had been looking forward to it for weeks, and our teacher, Mr Okafor, had planned everything carefully. However, as my grandmother says, plans are made to be broken. The first problem came at eight o'clock. The coach didn't arrive. Mr Okafor phoned the company, and they said that the driver was ill. Although they promised to send another coach, it took more than an hour. By then, half of us had already eaten our packed lunches. When we finally set off, it started to rain. Not light rain, but the kind of rain that makes rivers on the windows. Therefore, Mr Okafor decided to change the plan. Instead of walking round the outdoor areas first, we would start in the indoor rainforest house. This turned out to be the best part of the day. As soon as we walked in, it was warm and green, and there were birds flying right above our heads. A keeper showed us a sloth that was sleeping upside down. She explained that sloths move so slowly that small plants grow in their fur. Nobody believed her until she showed us a photo. Unfortunately, the rain didn't stop, so we didn't see the lions or the penguins. On the way home the coach got stuck in traffic, and we arrived back at school two hours late. Was it a disaster? Not really. Although almost everything went wrong, it's the trip that everyone in our class is still talking about. And now I know a lot about sloths. Mr Okafor says we can try again in the spring, unless it rains.
